Rep. Matt Morgan wrote HB 3790, which would have increased criminal penalties for offenses committed by aliens. If a court determines that a defendant was an alien at the time of an offense, the punishment is elevated to the next highest category. Minimum sentencing requirements are also increased for first-degree felonies and Class A misdemeanors.

Those here illegally who commit crimes should be treated harshly in Texas.
