Rep. Mike Olcott's bill, HB 3657, mandates the removal of a public school student from the classroom and placement in a disciplinary alternative education program for a minimum of 30 days if the student commits assault or engages in harassment against a school district employee.

There's too much violence in our schools. We need to reinstitute discipline and respect for other people.

The bill died without a hearing in the House Public Education Committee, chaired by Republican Brad Buckley.
